Chiropractic Techniques of Our Burlington Office

Chiropractic Burlington WA Back Pain

Upon injury, the individual often alters the normal position or biomechanics of the spinal vertebrae. Chiropractic treatment is designed to restore normal alignment and motion, thus minimizing pain and suffering. Gentle manipulative therapy, often referred to as an “adjustment” is effective in rapidly returning the injured person to a productive status. The doctor of chiropractic can also provide guidance, with advice designed to reduce work-related injuries, proper lifting procedures, and therapeutic stretching and exercises.

Our Burlington chiropractors may use a combination of the following adjusting techniques to best restore you to proper function.

Techniques

Palmer / Diversified: The most commonly used adjustment technique by chiropractors. Like many chiropractic manipulative techniques, Diversified is characterized by a high velocity low amplitude thrust (quick but light force applied by the hands).

Thompson “Drop” Technique: A low force technique that utilizes gravity and the patients’ own body weight to perform the adjustment on a specialized drop table.

Activator Methods: A low force, instrument based form of chiropractic adjusting. The Activator instrument is a spring-loaded tool designed to perform very specific and accurate adjustments.

Cox Flexion-Distraction: Cox Technique is a spinal manipulation technique performed on a specially designed chiropractic table (The Cox Table for flexion-distraction) which has a movable lower extremity piece (that part on which a patient's legs lie).

Cox Technique decreases pressure within the vertebral disc, widens the spinal canal, reduces pressure on the spinal nerves, and return motions to spinal joints.

Cox Technique reduces pain due to disc herniation, slipped disc, ruptured disc, facet syndrome, stenosis, spondylolisthesis, leg pain, sciatica, and many conditions.

Myofascial Release: Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. The use of Myofascial Release allows us to look at each patient as a unique individual. Our one-on-one therapy sessions are hands-on treatments during which our doctors use a multitude of Myofascial Release techniques and movement therapy.

Fascia is a specialized system of the body that has an appearance similar to a spider's web or a sweater. Fascia is very densely woven, covering and interpenetrating every muscle, bone, nerve, artery and vein, as well as, all of our internal organs including the heart, lungs, brain and spinal cord. The most interesting aspect of the fascial system is that it is not just a system of separate coverings. It is actually one continuous structure that exists from head to toe without interruption. In this way you can begin to see that each part of the entire body is connected to every other part by the fascia, like the yarn in a sweater.

Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial adhesions that can produce tensile pressures on pain sensitive structures. It is thought that an extremely high percentage of people suffering with pain and/or lack of motion may be having fascial problems, but most go undiagnosed.

Corrective Exercises: Our doctors prescribe their patients exercises designed specifically for their individual needs to help rehabilitate, and then strengthen muscle groups related to their condition. Depending on the condition, these exercises, in addition to other treatments, can improve and speed recovery. In addition to skeletal misalignment, muscles and connective tissues can be functioning improperly due to improper use or repetitive stress.

Kinesio Taping: The Kinesio Taping® Method is a definitive rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion as well as providing extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting.
