How long do you need Chiropractic care? |
The length of care will vary with each individual depending on the severity of the condition. However, the majority of people experience significant improvement within a few visits. Initial treatment to correct misalignments can range from 2 to 6 weeks; this may include spinal adjustments, soft tissue massage, and rehabilitative stretches and exercises. After initial treatment is completed, the chiropractor may recommend periodic check-ups to maintain proper spinal health. Just like visiting your dentist for regular checkups can prevent expensive dental work, regular chiropractic checkups can help prevent any serious, debilitating spinal conditions. |

Is Chiropractic care safe? |

There have been many research articles written that prove chiropractic, when performed by a trained professional, is one of the safest forms of health care. Chiropractors do not perform surgery or prescribe medication. Instead, they adjust the spine using either their hands or a percussion instrument. There are a variety of techniques that a chiropractor can use. The chiropractors at Skagit River Chiropractic use a combination of soft tissue massage and the chiropractic adjustment to correct spinal misalignments. |

Chiropractic is a form of health care that focuses on correcting misalignments in the spine. The spine protects the spinal cord and most of the nerves in the body. If the spine is out of alignment, the nerves may become irritated which may cause pain, numbness, tingling, muscle spasms, etc. A chiropractor will adjust the spine to correct the misalignment and restore proper nerve flow to the body. |

How does Chiropractic work? |

Everything you do, say, or think is controlled by your brain. In order for the messages to get from your brain to the rest of your body, the brain needs to send a signal which tells your body to do something. The signal travels down the spinal cord and through specific nerves that connect to all parts of your body. The spinal cord and the beginning of these nerves are protected by the spinal column (a.k.a. the spine). The spine is made up of 24 freely movable bones (vertebrae). The nerves exit the spinal cord between the vertebrae. Many times the bones will shift slightly (misalign) and irritate these nerves. This is called a subluxation and may lead to a wide variety of conditions. Some common conditions are, but not limited to, back pain, neck pain, headaches, numbness or pain in the arms and legs, and joint stiffness and pain. Chiropractors are trained to find this nerve irritation and remove it by adjusting the spine. Once the irritation on the nerves is removed, the body will be able to function at its optimum potential. |
